The Slotron guide
France: online casino prohibition and the ANJ register
France permits specific online gambling products but prohibits online casino games. An international casino licence does not replace French authorisation.

Online casino games are prohibited
France’s Autorité Nationale des Jeux, or ANJ, states that websites offering online casino games such as roulette, blackjack and slots are prohibited in France. A foreign or “international” gaming licence does not make those services authorised in the French market.
Other online gambling products have their own legal framework. ANJ directs readers to its list of authorised operators when checking an online offer. The existence of authorised betting or poker should not be used to imply that the same permission covers an online slot lobby.
An accessible site can still be illegal
ANJ publishes information about blocking and delisting unlawful gambling websites. The regulator’s guidance warns against relying on a casino’s own assertions of legality. A French-language interface, a familiar payment method or a page that opens successfully is not a substitute for the official permission.
| Detail | What it does not prove |
|---|---|
| A licence from another jurisdiction | French authorisation |
| French-language support | Permission to offer online casino games |
| Absence from a blocking list | Approval by ANJ |
| An accepted deposit | Legal eligibility or a future payout |
Complaints have a defined scope
ANJ’s FAQ says the authority and the gambling mediator are not competent to handle a dispute with an illegal operator. It points readers to the relevant consumer-protection route. That limitation is useful to know before assuming a French regulator will resolve a dispute with an offshore casino.
For an authorised operator, follow the applicable complaint process and the regulator’s current guidance. This overview does not promise recovery of money or offer advice on an individual claim.
How Slotron records France
The country page separates legal context from each casino’s terms. If the operator explicitly prohibits France, we record Restricted with its source and review date. A support statement would be an operator claim only; it could not override the online casino prohibition.
Missing or contradictory policy information remains unknown. We do not test a service by depositing or gambling from France, and we do not offer workarounds for restrictions. The linked official sources explain the regulatory position; individual casino sources document what those businesses say about access.
